Physio - our approach
To treat your pain or movement problem we will assess it, ask you about your work and lifestyle, agree on a goal and plot a plan to get there.
At your first visit we will:
talk about your problem, its history, and the activities you do in work and life
conduct a detailed physical assessment by watching you move, and testing your muscles, joints and nervous system
set goals together – what will improvement look like to you
work out a plan to reach those goals.
Some problems respond very well to hands-on physio treatment such as massage, joint mobilisation or manipulation.
Hands-on treatment may be what you need to reduce your pain and get you moving. Some people find regular hands-on treatment helps keep them going between appointments. Occasionally you might like to book a massage appointment with us to help your progress.
Or we might use them to give you some relief while we work together to actively manage your recovery. This will include helping you to better understand your condition, suggesting exercises to increase your capacity, and modifying factors that are causing your pain.
Our physios design an individual plan with simple exercises for you to practise at home. An individual plan for you to better understand your condition and get actively involved in your recovery.
Take-home resources and follow up
During your appointment we will share a lot of information about your pain or injury and how we could treat it. To help you to understand our diagnosis and treatment ideas our physios send you a summary of what we have discussed and resources to help you learn about your condition.
If you are starting an exercise plan, we send it to you as an app that includes demonstrations of how to do each exercise. As well as reminding you of how to do the movement, it helps your physio to keep track of how your pain is responding to your exercises.
We encourage you to contact us with any questions between appointments, so that you can get on with the work of actively recovering from your problem.
